What to expect
We start on the sand with ocean safety, how to read the whitewater, paddling and the pop-up. Then you're in the water with your instructor, catching broken waves until you can do it on your own.
The beach breaks on Varkala's South Cliff side are some of the friendliest in India for first-timers, which is why we teach here.
The goal: Most people are standing up on whitewater waves by their second or third session.

Do I need to know how to surf?
No. This lesson is for complete beginners and people who have only tried once.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, sunscreen and water. The board, rash guard and instructor are included.
Is there a minimum age?
We teach ages 8 and up.
When is the best time to surf in Varkala?
Varkala has waves year-round. November to March is best for beginners; June to September brings bigger monsoon swell for experienced surfers.
Where are lessons held?
On the beach at Aaliyirakkam, South Cliff, Varkala.
